Veggie Van
ESW acquired a diesel powered van and converted it so that it runs on vegetable oil. Although the conversion is complete, there is still maintenance work to be done on the vehicle. This includes some engine work as well as some design work, both on the interior and the exterior. We want the van to take ESW members on trips, but also serve as an educational tool as to how waste vegetable oil can be used as fuel.

Student teams travel to Honduras during the January intersession and interns with Engineers for a Sustainable World work with Agua Para el Pueblo to supervise the construction and operation of the water treatment plants. This project is associated with the CEE 4540 class, or students can work on it without joining the class.

Therma' Mia
Cornell University is located in Ithaca, NY, a town infamous for its harsh and bitter cold winters. While dormitories offer shelter and protection from the elements for undergraduate students, it doesn’t always feel like it in some of the older buildings. The students who live in the older dorms often complain about the cold, and how the windows feel like sheets of ice.
The Cornell chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World will stand for justice and warmth for all. We plan on using infrared cameras and cameras to help us identify, quantify and locate the heat leaks in various dorms on campus. These results will be compared amongst one another, including the newer dorms. We will be working with Campus Life Facilities, and will provide them with our data to facilitate future renovations of the older buildings.
